Reliance Industries edged past Oil and Natural Gas Corporation in morning deals on Thursday to become India's most valuable company with a market capitalisation of Rs 1,60,949 crore (Rs 1609. 49 billion).
The National Commodity and Derivatives Exchange Ltd plans to rope in oil companies like Indian Oil Corporation and Reliance Industries Ltd to boost Brent crude futures trading on the bourse.
RIL's merger with RPL will mean non-issue of treasury stock worth Rs 26,000 crore, which means less headroom to raise funds. Since no treasury stock is going to be created, RIL will issue 69.2 million shares to RPL's ordinary shareholders. As a result, RIL's paid-up capital will increase to only Rs 1,643 crore from the present Rs 1,574 crore. This, in turn, will enhance the earning per share proportionately for RIL shareholders.

Canada-based Brookfield will acquire the Indian business of American Tower Corporation (ATC) for an enterprise value of $2 billion, a release said on Friday. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and expected to close in the second half of 2024. "Data Infrastructure Trust (DIT), an Infrastructure Investment Trust sponsored by an affiliate of Brookfield Asset Management, today announced the signing of an agreement with ATC to acquire 100 per cent of equity interests in American Tower's operations in India (ATC India), for an enterprise value of Rs 16,500 crore ($2 billion) which is subject to pre-closing terms as per the securities purchase agreement," it said.

The government has cut the windfall profit tax on crude oil produced in the country while the levy on exports of diesel and ATF has been hiked, an official notification said. The tax, levied in the form of special additional excise duty or SAED, on domestically produced crude oil was reduced to Rs 6,700 per tonne from Rs 7,100 a tonne. SAED on the export of diesel was increased to Rs 6 per litre from Rs 5.50 a litre and on jet fuel or ATF to Rs 4 per litre from Rs 2, the notification said.
RIL had earlier decided not to pursue the cash-and-carry model due to a number of reasons, including a growing unrest towards organised retail.
